Commissioner for the Rights of Persons with Mental Disorders

Dr Denis Vella Baldacchino graduated as a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery in 1986. He has a diverse and vast experience in patient contact, having spent about 13 years as a doctor working in the Accident and Emergency Department. He furthered his career by reading for two Master Degrees in Disaster Medicine and Public Health Medicine respectively. He spent nearly one year as Hubert Humphrey Fellow in the United States to further his experience in Emergency Planning. He held various administrative roles as Director of Primary Health and as Chief Medical Officer during which tenures he triggered various new initiatives. Since Dec 2021, after serving two terms as Chief Medical Officer he was appointed as Commissioner for the Promotion of Rights of Persons with Mental Disorders. Dr. Denis Vella Baldacchino holds dear to his heart the promotion of these rights, as well as, the prevention of mental health problems.
